Tips for golf in SA and around the world

12 April 2013

At Caddyshack Rentals we’re not just here to make your trips to South African golf courses a breeze, we are ourselves golf crazy so like to take time out every month to provide our readers, customers and golf fans alike with a few tips when heading out on the golf course in Africa or anywhere else in the world!

Today we’re going to look at hitting with power with Butch Harmon; something we all want to be able to do properly!

For distance: Your weight should move in the direction the club is swinging. When the club goes back, your weight shifts back; when the club swings through, your weight shifts through.  Don’t make the mistake a lot of amateurs do and thats leave the weight on your front foot during the backswing and onto the back foot during the downswing – error!

How to practice: “Set up with your driver, but take a narrow stance, about 12 inches wide. Then make a slow-motion swing, stepping out with your right foot as you start the club away (above). This side step will get your weight shifting to the right. With your weight in your right instep, you’re in position to drive your body toward the target as you swing down… And that’s how you hit the ball with power!” Thanks Butch!

Whether you’re playing at Stellenbosch golf course here in SA, Wentworth in UK or Pebble Beach USA, take Butch’s advice on board and see what difference it makes to your game…
