SA Open

15 November 2012

This week there’s a real buzz in the air and it’s the moment many have been waiting for as pro-golfers from all over the world converge at Serengeti Golf Club for this years’ South African Open.

It’s already been a busy week for some with the final 3 qualifying tournaments having taken place on Tuesday. Hundreds of hopefuls flooded to Johannesburg to take part in the qualifying tournaments which took place at Glendower Golf Club, Benoni Golf Club and Kempton Park Golf Club with final Open places awarded to the victors.

South Africa aren’t just hosting this prestigious event, our own Louis Oosthuizen (world ranking, 6th) Charl Schwartzel (world ranking, 33rd) and defending champion Hennie Otto are all taking part with the aim of keeping the SA Trophy on home soil. In an interview this week Louis Oosthuizen said he’s so determined to win, he’s prepared for the tournament as if it was a Major.

Having enjoyed a few practise rounds on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course earlier this week he commented, “The course is in great shape and a really good test – and by that I mean there’s a lot of water that comes in to play, there’s plenty of slope on the greens so you can’t be on the wrong side of the cup, and there’s a bunch of risk and reward holes,”

It certainly doesn’t sound like it will be plain sailing for anyone but one thing’s for sure, it’s going to be a fantastic four days of golf for the spectator and if you’re anything like us, you’ll be glued to the action from start to finish!

Join us next week as we wrap up the tournament with our full SA Open review.
