Player Profile – Louis Oosthuizen

16 May 2012

A firm favourite of Caddyshack¬†Rentals is Lodewicus Theodorus – or “Louis” Oosthuizen, as we know him. Louis was born on the 19th October 1982 and in recent times is one of the most well known South African pro golfers. In his early days he was supported financially by the Fancourt Foundation of fellow South African golfing legend, Ernie Els. He won a number of amateur titles before turning pro at the age of 19 in 2002.

Louis has won 5 professional tournaments on the Sunshine Tour and in 2010 took the world by storm by winning the The British Open and taking home the coveted Claret Jug. Louis became the forth South African to take the title following Bobby Locke, Gary Player, and Ernie Els. This victory also saw him move to 15th in the World Rankings.

The following 2 years were steady for Louis but unfortunately, although finishing consistently in the top 10, failed to secure any more wins and he saw his ranking drop. His closest call was at this years Masters where he narrowly missing out on the Green Jacket losing the play-off to Bubba Watson. His disappointment was short-lived as last month he won the European Tours Malaysian Open beating Stephen Gallacher by 3 shots! This is the second European Tour victory of the year after winning the African Open back in January.

2012 is no doubt a good year for Louis and following his recent win now sits 14th in the World Rankings.
