19 June 2012

From time to time at Caddyshack Rentals we like to open up those pro golfers biographies and bring you some player profiles. We’ve already taken a look at Rory McIlroy and home grown talent Louis Oosthuizen and today we’re opening the doors on follow South African Charl Schwartzel.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 31 August 1984, Charl dominated in his junior ammeter carer which included a number of wins in other countries. He became a pro golfer at the age of 18 and the second youngest South African pro to qualify for the European Tour. In the 2004-05 season he won the Dunhill Championship, a leading tournament in South Africa that is co-sanctioned by the European Tour.

His win at the 2005-06 season-ending Vodacom Tour Championship took him into the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) for the first time. Charl went on to take first place on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit for the third consecutive year in 2007. After a winless 2009 he started 2010 by winning two consecutive tournaments on the European Tour and re-entered the top 50 of the OWGR.

In 2011 Charl joined the PGA Tour; on 16 January 2011 he retained his Joburg Open title, winning by four shots. He then went on to win the 2011 Masters Tournament. Charl plays on the PGA Tour, European Tour, and the Sunshine Tour. Charl’s highest world ranking has been number seven, in May 2011.
