Oversized grip a benefit?

2 May 2013

Every month we dip our toes into Golfers Digest and see what everyone’s talking about at the golf clubs in South Africa, or anywhere else in the world!

There’s one topic that’s certainly popular this month… Forget TaylorMade irons or Nike drivers… it’s all about oversized putter grips!

Everyone seems to be talking about the oversized and non-tapered putter grips from SuperStroke. Not only that but they are also growing in popularity among, believe it or not, professional golfers.

According to GD the movement largely began when Jason Dufner finished 2nd at the 2011 PGA Championship using one. At the recent Northern Trust Open, Charlie Beljan (2nd) and Fredrik Jacobson (tied for 3rd) used them.

Amateurs might benefit, too, says Jason Guss, one of Golf Digest’s Best Young Teachers; “Because the grip is so big it takes away a lot of grip pressure, so your hands are a little more relaxed. When they’re more relaxed, it takes the wristiness out. And changing the thickness in the grip erases bad memories from your mental bank.”
